At the Table
October 8, 2023 – November 26, 2023In many different instances Jesus sat down with people for a meal, and what would otherwise be an ordinary event (everybody has to eat) is highlighted in Luke’s gospel and becomes a faith lesson. In some of the instances the focus is on how hospitality is redefined by Jesus, and in other instances we see how hospitality transforms lives. In all these instances the very presence of Jesus in the context of sharing a meal together brings light and life to his followers. Consequently the challenge is to practice hospitality in the name of Jesus. Some key questions to focus in this sermon series would be: What do these meals/settings tell us about WHO Jesus is and WHAT He came to do? And then, what do these stories tell us about what true hospitality is?
